Internet speedometer for PC
To see the internet speed on the taskbar, you need to download software known as NetSpeedMonitor.
The app is primarily designed to run on Windows Vista, XP and 7. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t work on Windows 8 and above. To do that, you need to run the installer in compatibility mode. Do not you worry. We have mentioned the steps in detail. Download NetSpeedMonitor Step 1: The first step is to download the tool. Open the link above and click on the Download Now option. You get two download options: x86 and x64. The first is for 32-bit Windows systems and the second is for 64-bit. Click the desired option and save the file to your computer. Tip To find your Windows system type, open the ‘This PC’ folder on your Windows computer and right click anywhere. Select Properties and check under System Type.
Step 2: Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the file. If you are using a Windows version under Windows 8, the installation should start normally. Anything above it throws an error that the operating system is not supported. Do not you worry. It’s time to make some adjustments.
Step 3: Right click on the installation file and go to Properties.
Step 4: Under Properties, click the Compatibility tab. Here, check the box next to ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’. The drop-down list should show ‘Previous version of Windows’. Press Ok to save the changes.
Step 5: Now double-click the installation file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions during the installation process. Step 6: Once installed, you will not see the internet speed directly on your taskbar. You must enable the program first. To do that, right-click anywhere on your taskbar and click on the Toolbars option. Select NetSpeedMonitor here.
Once you enable it, you will see the upload and download speed on the taskbar.
NetSpeedMonitor is not working
If the meter freezes at zero, right-click on the meter and select Configuration.
In the NetSpeedMonitor window that opens, change the network interface to another and click OK. Hopefully the meter should work now. If it still doesn’t work, repeat the process with other interfaces to find the one that works.

Use the following tips to make the most of the tool.
Change the speed unit
By default, the tool shows the speed in kilobits / second (Kbit / s), which looks a bit strange in normal use. To make it readable, change it to kilobytes / second (KB / s) or megabits / second (Mbit / s) or the desired metric. Fun fact: Internet and download speed are two different things. Internet speed is usually measured in megabits / second (Mbit / s) and download speed in megabytes / second (MB / s). To change the speed metric, right-click the NetSpeedMonitor on the taskbar and select Configuration. Choose the speed unit from the drop-down list next to Bitrate.
View data usage
The NetSpeedMonitor tool not only shows the current internet speed, but you can also use it to track your data usage. To do this, right-click on the NetSpeedMonitor meter on the taskbar and click on Data Traffic.
Change double click action
Double-clicking the NetSpeedMonitor tool on the taskbar is used to turn the monitoring on and off by default. However, you can customize it and use it for an action of your choice. I have set it to open the data traffic window. To change it, go to Configuration and choose the appropriate double-click option.
Adjust Tool Font
If you like to tinker with fonts, the good old app lets you adjust the font style and size. To do this, go to Configuration> Layout. Change the font here.
Furthermore, you can also customize the initials displayed for upload and download speed in Layout.
Export database
Since the tool records the daily data usage, you can also export the database. To do this, go to Configuration> Database> Export Wizard.
