Guide: How to Save Web Pages in Chrome for iOS and Android

Converting web pages to the pdf format in Chrome has its uses. Maybe it is an interesting article that you want to keep offline permanently. Or maybe you want to share a page with others after making a few annotations and the like. Whatever the reason, you are not limited to saving web pages as PDFs on desktops. You can also do that on mobile appliances. If you are using Chrome on your iPhone or Android smartphone, it is more than possible to save any webpage you come across in the pdf format. But instead of sharing links to third-party apps or services and converting web pages to PDFs that way, what I’ll show you just requires using native functionality on both platforms.

Convert web pages to PDF – Chrome for iOS

Chrome can appear too simplistic on the iPhone and iPad. But in fact it is packed features that makes it great for surfing. And it too features the ability to seamlessly convert web pages to PDF format by ‘printing’ the document. You may have noticed that Chrome for iOS does not show the ‘Save as PDF’ or ‘Print to PDF’ options anywhere on the Printer Options screen. It also doesn’t have a Safari style ‘Copy to books’ option. Instead, Chrome requires you to perform a particular two-finger gesture to get the job done. Let’s see where and how to do that. Step 1: Open a web page you want to convert. Once loading is complete, tap on it Share icon in the top right corner of Chrome’s address bar.

Step 2: Scroll down Share Sheet and then tap Print. On the Printer Options screen that appears up Then perform a Zoom In (or Pinch Out) gesture on a preview thumbnail. This action will immediately convert the web page to a PDF file.

Tip Before performing the Zoom In gesture, you can also use the Page Range option on the Printer Options screen to prevent unwanted pages from being included in the PDF file. Step 3: Press Share icon in the top right corner of the PDF file preview screen. On the Share Sheet that shows up, share the file with another app or save it locally.

I prefer to save converted PDF files locally with Save to files option. This allows me to do a lot of actions with the Files app like rename the file, move it to another location, share it with multiple other apps, etc.

Convert web pages to PDF – Chrome for Android

If you use Chrome on your Android smartphone, saving webpages in PDF format is even more convenient than on the iPhone. That’s because the browser has direct access to a special ‘Save as PDF’ option. That option turns out up while using the printing functionality of your Android device. Step 1: Open a web page and apply up the Chrome menu (tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Find the Share option and tap on it.

Step 2: Tap Print on it Share menu. On the preview screen that is displayed up Then tap Select printer.

Step 3: Choose Save as PDF from the drop-down menu. To follow up by doing any configurations you want, such as selecting specific pages or ranges of pages for conversion, adjusting the paper size, selecting the orientation, etc. Finally, tap the diskette-shaped Save icon.

Chrome will convert the webpage and save it as a PDF in the Downloads folder of your device, after which you can access or share it with other apps. You can access it using File Manager on your device. Important: Sometimes you will not see the Print option on it Share menu. If so, restarting the device will help bring this option back. Alternatively, resetting the Chrome flags will also do the job, although you will lose any changes made to it – to do this, type chrome: // flags in the Chrome address and then tap Enter. On the screen that shows up, tap Reset all to default.

PDF – Still the king of formats

When it comes to convenience and compatibility, nothing beats the PDF format that works on almost any device without any issues. And with the methods mentioned above, you can basically convert any web page you come across on both main pages to PDF mobile platforms easily. I have no idea why Chrome on the iPhone has to include such an obscure gesture to save webpages in PDF, but at least it’s super easy to perform. On Android, things are pretty simple, as it should be.
