Guide: How to Design Superhero Poster Online

Who doesn’t like posters? I bet I’m growing up we all had a poster or two of our teen idols in our rooms (much to our mother’s dismay). As fun as it was, the whole poster-hunting process came with limitations. First, you couldn’t design your posters. Second, it was a bit difficult to find one with two of your favorite superheroes together. Fortunately, things have changed for the better in the last ten years. Now you can not only choose your own superhero theme for your poster, but you can also design the other elements. So what are we waiting for? Let’s take a look at how to create custom superhero posters. But before we get started, let’s take a quick look at what kind of images you can and should download.

Which image to use? About IP and copyrights

Most of the user-generated content you see floating around the Internet is original and creative work by digital artists and is not for commercial use without permission. Some artists even prohibit others from reusing their work for layouts and posters without their explicit permission. After all, all these images are their creations.

Therefore, when you are looking for images for your poster, make sure to check the copyright clauses. And even if it’s for personal use, the creator’s permission is always the ideal way. Now, coming back to places where you can choose your images, here are a few.

1. Source images

Here are some of our favorite sites to find royalty-free images.

1. Pixabay

Pixabay has its own quite extensive gallery of copyright-free images. And if that’s not enough, you also get access to a range of cool illustrations and clipart. All you need to do is check the license and if it’s free to use, you can download it with just one click. Unfortunately, when it comes to superheroes, Pixabay doesn’t have much other than symbols and signs associated with the mighty superheroes. But if you’re a fan of popular ones like Captain America, Iron Man, Superman, or Batman, chances are you won’t be disappointed.

The good thing is that there are plenty of callouts that you can use creatively to design a great poster. Cool Tip: Select Artwork in the search box to browse artwork and not photos. Visit Pixabay

2. Unsplash

Another website where you can check for royalty-free images is Unsplash. As with Pixabay, it contains a myriad of copyright-free photos. The key to creating a perfect photo in Unsplash is search and patience. Yes, there are a lot of photos, but finding the right one will take for sure up part of your time.

For example, I found this cool and creative Star Wars image when I searched for comic and not Star Wars. And if we have the same taste, I would say it doesn’t look bad.

Again, let me reiterate that most of the images on Unsplash are actual images. Visit Unsplash

3. DeviantArt

A fan of superheroes should already know DeviantArt and its extensive library of images and backgrounds. While you will have to pay for some artworks, you can download others for free as long as it is for personal use. While you are browsing DeviantArt, keep an eye out for copyright messages.

You can search directly on Google using one of the search providers. Or you can open DeviantArt and search directly. When you’re done, you can limit your choices to Backgrounds or Digital art, through the filter in the left pane. Image is for representation purposes only. There are quite a few artists that I admire, such as Andy Romero (Blo0p) and rodolforever. If you fancy one of their digital prints, find the link to buy the artwork at the bottom of the image (provided it’s a new photo). Visit DeviantArt

4. Wallpaper sites

If you’re only making a poster for personal use (oops, did I say that again?), You might want to check out some of the wallpaper sites like Alpha Coders. They have some fantastic creative images, be it an actual photo from the movies or fan art.
