How to Bring Back the old Featured Articles UI in Google Chrome – Guide
After updating to a new version of the Chrome app on one of my Google Android phones, I noticed that the default tab switching page UI (also known as the tab organizer, tab picker, or tab display screen) has changed. When I pressed new tab button on the Chrome toolbar (near the 3-dot menu), Chrome displayed all running tabs in a redrawn layout, as shown in the screenshot below. and can be used to disable the new grid layout and bring back the old classic card layout to the tab switcher screen. During my time with Firefox on Android I had no problems. When I needed a web browser it worked perfectly. And not using Chrome on Android was a no-brainer for me. For others, this may be less obvious. After all, most of mobile users just want everything to work as expected and don’t bother taking the extra steps to do something as simple as viewing a web page in a phone. In fact, the new grid layout is not new. If you remember, last year we told you how to enable and enable this new grid layout in Chrome app, when it was in development and testing and not available by default for Chrome users.
Revert to the old recommended articles UI
Google’s new suggested feeds interface is slowly rolling out on the server side, so not everyone would have understood it by now. But sooner or later you should get this update. And if you’re not a fan of those great cue cards, there’s a solution to getting the old ones back. And no, we would not downgrade the app to a previous version. The instructions will only run on the latest Chrome version 78. So, let’s see the steps to restore the old suggested article interface in Chrome.
Context up the flag
To do this, we would need to disable a specific flag. This flag has been around for a while and has been previously activated by enthusiasts to get a glimpse of the bigger reference cards. Now that Google has enabled it for everyone, we can simply disable this flag. This will restore the old recommendation articles UI to Chrome for everyone. Similar to these recommended maps, you can also get selected news through the Google News app. Also check.
