If you’ve been using a Windows 10 PC for a while, chances are it has slowed down a bit. This usually happens with almost any Windows PC and in addition to the usual cleaning steps up disks and dumping temporary Internet files, there are some additional things you can do to ensure fast performance. I’ve taken broad lines and will only talk about options that work on almost any system. Laptop, Desktop, Convertible, you name it.
1. Animations
The only big change in Windows 10 is all of the animation introduced by Microsoft. While it doesn’t affect newer systems so much, some of the older systems may not be able to keep it upSo go to the search bar in the taskbar and type Advanced and then click on the option Show advanced system settings. Under Performance, click on the Settings tab, where we need to make some changes.
Under Visual Effects, first check the radio option for Adjust for best performance. This will disable all of the options below, but we will have to re-enable some of them. These are Enable Peek, Smooth Screen Font Edges, Smooth Scroll List Lists, and Use Drop Shadows for Desktop Icon Labels. The latter 2 are not required, but if it helps your system, turn it off too.
2. Remove unwanted software
This goes without saying, but removing unwanted software is the best way to keep your PC running smoothly. The problem is that sometimes one software installs another software without our knowledge. The best solution to this problem I’ve found is to use Unchecky.
Searching for the keyword Uninstall a program will take you directly to where you can uninstall programs that you don’t recognize or haven’t used for a while and probably won’t use either. The best way to sort information here is to sort by Installed on, new to old, and remove programs you don’t recognize. Unless the publisher is Microsoft or Oracle, you probably don’t need much of the software found here.
Useful third-party software: I recommend checking out Piriform and PC Decrapifier to clean up more junk than what’s available on Windows. But stay away from those who claim to clean up register.
3. Maintain healthy discs
Your hard drives are the primary source of all your information, as well as where everything is installed. Keeping your primary hard drive is imperative and therefore old tips such as Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter also work fine for Windows 10.
4. God mode!
Copy and paste the string below as the name of a new folder on your desktop and access the most useful tools in it a place.
