Method 1: Launch guest mode with the Chrome shortcut
This method requires you to create a Chrome shortcut and then add a string to the Target text box. If you then click on the new shortcut, guest mode will be opened directly. Don’t get confused. Here are the steps in detail.
1. Create a Chrome shortcut
Step 1: You need to add a Chrome shortcut icon on the desktop. To do this, drag the Chrome icon from the Start menu on the desktop.
You can also go to the folder where Chrome is installed. It is usually present in: C: Program Files (x86) GoogleChromeApplication Right-click on the Chrome.exe icon and select Send to. Then click Desktop (create shortcut).
Step 2: Open the desktop. You will see the newly added Chrome icon.
2. Add target in Properties
Step 1: Right-click on the newly added Chrome shortcut icon on the desktop and select Properties from the menu.
Step 2: On the Shortcut tab, next to the Target field, enter –guest after Chrome.exe ”. Then click OK button Note: Leave a space between the existing string and the newly added string, ie between the inverted comma and the first dash of –guest.
3. Rename the shortcut
Renaming the Chrome shortcut makes it easy to distinguish the guest mode icon. This step is not required, but it would pay off for everyone who uses your computer. To do that, right-click on the newly added Chrome icon and select Rename.
Then type in a name you prefer. For example, I have called it Google Chrome guest mode.
4. Open guest mode
The above steps are a one-time task. Now, when you want to start guest mode directly, double click the guest mode Chrome icon.
Method 2: Launch Guest Mode from Profile Manager
Another way to start guest mode directly is from the profile management window. Guest mode will not open directly here, but you will be presented with the profile management screen. You need to click on Browse as a guest.
The advantage of using this method is that you don’t have to add multiple shortcuts for different profiles on the desktop. You can open one window and then browse from the profile you want. Here are the steps: Step 1: Add a Chrome shortcut on the desktop as shown above. Step 2: Right click on the new Chrome icon and go to Properties.
Step 3: On the Shortcut tab, next to the Target box, type the following string: –Profile directory = “Guest profile” Then click Apply. Note: Don’t forget to leave a space between the old and new string.
Step 4: Rename the shortcut by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting Rename. Enter a name of your choice.
Step 5: Double click on that icon and you will be taken to the profile switching screen. Click Browse as guest.
Method 3: Launch Guest Mode from Run dialog box
If you don’t want to add a shortcut, but want to start guest mode from any screen on your Windows laptop, you can do that too. For that, you need to take the help of the Run dialog box. Press the Windows + R shortcut on your keyboard to open the dialog. Type the following question chrome.exe guest Then press OK. Chrome starts guest mode.
Launch Chrome with Guest Mode on Mac
While you can also launch Guest Mode directly on macOS, the process is somewhat complicated compared to Windows. That’s because you have to make a script for that. The script shortcut does not have a Chrome icon; instead, it has its own icon. Take a cold pill. We’ll guide you through the steps, which you only have to do once. Step 1: You must start the AppleScript Editor. To do that, launch Spotlight with the Cmd + Space shortcut or click the search icon in the top right corner. Then type apple script editor and press Enter. Step 2: Click New Document at the bottom.

Bonus Tip: Add symbol to guest mode icon in Windows
If you have ever used the multi profile feature from Chrome, you must have noticed that it adds a small symbol to the Chrome icon. You can use the same feature to add a symbol to the guest mode shortcut icon. That further makes it easy to spot the guest mode icon. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Start Chrome in normal mode. Then click the profile picture icon at the top and select Manage people from the menu.
Step 2: Click Add person at the bottom.
Step 3: Type a name for the profile. You can call it a guest. Select an icon of your choice from the list. Check the box next to Create a desktop shortcut for this user. Then click on Add.
Step 4: A new desktop icon will be created with the name you set above. Right-click on that icon and select Properties.
Step 5: You need to delete the existing string present after chrome.exe ”and replace it with -guest in Target. Again, make sure to leave an empty space between the two strings. Click OK.
Step 6: Your Chrome Guest Mode shortcut with a symbol of your choice is ready. Double click on it to start the mode.

With the above methods, you can easily switch to a guest profile in Chrome without actually launching Chrome.
