Guide: Fix ‘Your Device’s Trash is Full’ Issue in Google Photos

So, you try to delete a photo from Google Photos and instead of getting deleted right away, you will see the Delete item permanently error message. Now of course you would want Google Photos to delete the photos permanently without the popupup message, but it doesn’t happen that way. There is a reason why you are getting this error. In fact, the doll up also mentions that your device’s trash bin is full. Recycle bin from device? Yes, you read that right, but technically it is doll up is a bit confusing because it is not the device’s trash, but the Google Photos trash can that is full. Confused? Don’t be like that. You will get all the answers, including the solution, in this post.

Google Photos Recycle Bin

I’m sure you might be wondering now what happens when you delete images in Google Photos? Well, similar to Windows, where the deleted items are kept in the Recycle Bin, Google Photos does not permanently delete the media but keeps them in its own version of the Recycle Bin, known as Recycle Bin. The media is kept in the recycle bin for 60 days and then automatically deleted. However, sometimes we delete a lot of photos at once or the new deletions are added to the existing recycle bin, causing the Google Photos recycle bin to fill up, which is why you get the Delete item permanently error.

Basically, when photos trash bin is full, the items are deleted permanently without taking them to trash first. This takes away the chance to recover photos in case you deleted the wrong one. Now that you know the reason behind the error, let’s know how to Fix it.

Fix Google Photos Your device trash bin is completely wrong

To fix this error, you just need to empty the Google Photos trash. Here are the steps to do the same. Step 1: Launch the Google Photos app on your device and tap the hamburger (three bar icon) in the top left corner to open the navigation drawer.

Step 2: In the drawer, tap Trash.

Step 3: Under Trash, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select Empty Trash. This will delete all photos in the trash and empty your trash.

Follow the steps to uninstall Google Photos updates: Step 1: Open the Play Store on your device and search for Google Photos. Tap the app.
