Guide: Fix ‘WhatsApp Desktop Notifications Not Working’ Issue
Until WhatsApp was limited to mobile phones “ WhatsApp went a step further and launched the web client for that mobile app. This allows users to chat with their friends from a PC or tablet. Then WhatsApp launched the desktop client for both Windows and Mac. While both the WhatsApp Web and the desktop clients work fine, there is sometimes an issue with the notifications. Sometimes WhatsApp notifications have no sound, while sometimes it doesn’t show the preview of messages. The preview we are talking about will appear in the lower right corner of your Windows PC. You can adjust it according to your need. So, if you are also having issues with WhatsApp desktop notifications, here are some quick solutions you should try.
Solution 1: turn on sound
If there is no sound when you receive a WhatsApp notification on your PC, make sure the sound setting is turned on. Follow these steps to turn on the sound for WhatsApp notifications: Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your PC using the desktop client or web app. Tap the three-dot menu icon and select Settings from the menu.
Step 2: Under Settings, choose Notifications. Make sure the Sound option is checked on the next screen.

Solution 2: Enable Desktop Alerts and Preview
If your WhatsApp client or web app produces a sound when a new message arrives but doesn’t send a desktop alert, then you need to check if the notification setting is enabled or not. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open WhatsApp Web or client on your desktop and tap the three dots icon. Click on Settings in the menu.

Solution 3: Switch to WhatsApp Web
Unfortunately, many people are unable to get preview or desktop alerts for notifications when using WhatsApp Windows application, even after enabling the above settings. At the moment there is no good solution. We hope WhatsApp will fix the bug in future updates.
But, if you are an avid user of the WhatsApp desktop application and want to receive desktop alerts, we recommend switching to WhatsApp Web for now. You can save the website as an app, it works similar to the desktop app and is lighter than the original app. Follow the steps to create a WhatsApp desktop app from Chrome: Step 1: Open WhatsApp web in Chrome. Step 2: Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner of Chrome. Select More tools followed by Add to desktop. A bang-up window will open. Click Add in that window.
Step 3: Then go to your desktop and launch the new WhatsApp shortcut. You get the same desktop interface. Make sure to enable the notifications as shown in solutions 1 and 2. Have fun.
Solution 4: Enable desktop notifications for WhatsApp Web
If you are not getting notifications on WhatsApp Web, you need to enable desktop notifications for Chrome. In most cases, you will get a light blue banner above your chat list in WhatsApp as follows:
Tap Enable Desktop Notifications. Then follow the onscreen instructions to enable desktop notifications. You can also receive notifications from other apps on your PC using this method. However, if you don’t see a banner, follow these steps: Step 1: Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots icon. Then click on Settings.
Step 2: Click the Advanced label to access more options. Then, under the Privacy and Security label, click on Content Settings.
Step 3: Finally, click on Notifications. Scroll down and search for WhatsApp. If it’s under the Block label, click the three-dot icon next to WhatsApp and select Allow from the menu.
Then close WhatsApp Web and open it again. You will now receive the notifications. If you want to turn off Chrome notifications on Android and PC, check it.
Bonus Trick How to Mute WhatsApp Desktop Notifications
If you want to mute or disable WhatsApp desktop notifications for some time, you can do that in the settings. WhatsApp offers three time periods to mute notifications: 1 hour, 1 day, and 1 week. If you choose an option, you will not get sound and alerts for that specific time period. Follow these steps to mute notifications: Step 1: Open WhatsApp Web and tap the three dots icon. Select Settings from the menu.
Step 2: Then go to Notifications. Under Notifications, click the label that says Turn off alerts and sounds for. Then select the duration.
To unmute notifications, go to the WhatsApp Web main screen and tap the bell icon in the top bar. As soon as you click on the bell icon, notifications will turn back on. Speaking of muting notifications, here’s a permanent way to mute WhatsApp group notifications.
