The Amazfit Band 7’s design is similar to that of most fitness bands, with a TPU strap and a rectangular core unit. The display is rectangular in shape, with rounded corners and thick bezels all around. It’s the same height as a 47mm Apple Watch Series 8, but only about half the width. There’s no physical or capacitive buttons on the Band 7, so navigation happens only via swipe gestures. The watch’s removable core has a 5ATM water resistance rating, so it should be fine for splashes and light submersion. The polycarbonate core unit houses the BioTracker 3.0 PPG biometric sensor, which measures heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and stress. There are two flat pins on the back for charging the device with the included magnetic charger. The core unit of the Amazfit Band 7, along with the strap, weighs 28g which is quite light. The strap is soft and comfy. The strap’s pin buckle system irritated me. Pressing the pin into the tiny cavity is a difficult task in and of itself, requiring a great deal of patience and pressure. The term “responsibility” refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions. This is needed especially for SpO2 monitoring, which otherwise simply won’t work. The Amazfit Band 7 runs Zepp OS, which appears to have been tailored to work on a smaller screen. Oddly, on the Band 7, it looks and feels very similar to what’s available on Xiaomi’s Mi Smart Band 6, especially when you enter the Settings menu. Because there is less space to display many options at once on the smaller display, there is a lot of scrolling to be done. Some apps, such as Calendar, have an odd appearance and are extremely difficult to use, so I frequently got lost in the interface while doing so. The main menu, which displays all of the built-in apps for example, can only display two apps at a time, which makes it quite difficult to figure out how far up or down you are in the list. To make matters worse, there is no side scroll-bar-like indicator to show how long the list is or where you have scrolled down to. A swipe to the right of the homescreen brings you to the notifications area, which displays all types of notifications in their entirety. However, none of these can be responded to. A swipe to the left from the main watch face reveals a widget-like interface which relays glanceable data from various built-in apps such as Activity, Heart rate, PAI, Sleep etc. Swiping left or right from the watch face enters a loop and returns you to the homescreen. There are numerous watch faces to choose from, and they are highly customizable.
