This is probably the most achievable type of aesthetic when working with a somewhat budget-friendly product. White is the color shown on the box, but this is not a play on translucency. They are opaque with a G on the box where the touch controls are located. The other color is dark olive. The exterior of the Pixel Buds A-Series charging case is plastic, just like the earphones, with rubber touches where needed. The rather flimsy cover doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the long run, but it doesn’t feel disposable. Overall, it’s a fairly lightweight affair. With properly sensitized touch panels, you can control your music and make phone calls directly from the Pixel Buds A-Series, without having to draw your phone. When you pair the Pixel Buds A-Series with an Android device, you can even access the Google Assistant with just your voice, provided you download the Pixel Buds app. The touch controls work effortlessly, though you can’t customize them. Google Assistant is activated by voice commands or by pressing and holding the G logo on one of the earbuds. On an iPhone, your experience may vary, as you’re limited to out-of-the-box settings. You don’t have much choice in the matter: Google requires you to download the Pixel Buds app (Android only). It automatically appears when you pair the A Series with your Android phone, and that’s one of the best things about these headphones. Seamless Android integration is one of the selling points of the Pixel Buds A-Series. Like the Apple AirPods Pro series, you can track the location of your headphones, which is great for such a small item. The app allows you to turn on Bass Boost, enable in-ear detection and learn touch controls. Since this is a Google app, keep in mind that it collects data when you allow access to features like Find device, which locates your headphones via GPS. All of these features work as expected.
